There are so many ways and techniques of fly fishing these days. Some try to do them all. Classic dry fly, nymph, Euronymph, indicator nymph, high stick, dry dropper, streamers, swing two handed, switch, single handled ect. and many variations of each. This blog will mostly be dedicated to fishing with streamers.
Convoluted concoctions of plumes of feathers.
Of hair, hide and plastic both hard and soft.
Pieces of carpet and heavy metal!
Streamers are many things to many people.
From fuchsia to chartreuse, black and white, mellow yellow and Caribbean blue.
There is a streamer just for you!
Some a little better than others, some are superior to most.
But to the trout, bass, pike and other fish we seek,
they don’t care really they are just looking for some meat.
Tie them or buy them, it costs about the same.
Just don’t buy or tie the ones the trout think are lame.
Streamers are simple and complex. Some look like Voodoo dolls that are stuck with pins.
Others have racing stripes and look ready to win!
Beastly in size at times, others so perfectly thought out.
They are sketched on paper. Then balanced and blue printed and put through their paces.
Tested on land, air and sea!
Thrown widely through the air and stuck in a tree!
I guarantee you this all has happened to me!
Streamers are above all else created for fun and adventure, to be pulled, stripped and swung for swimming treasure. Steamers are guitars and you are the musicians, play them well on the river and “reel music” you will be making. Join me and many other REEL musicians on our streamer adventures past, present and future………~Jason Arave
